‘Little Sunfish’ swimming robot spots melted nuclear fuel inside Fukushima?

The ‘Little Sunfish’ swimming robot may have spotted lumps of molten nuclear fuel inside the Unit 3 reactor at Fukushima during a 3 day inspection in early July 2017. The Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) said that ‘there is a high possibility that the solidified objects are mixtures of melted metal and fuels that fell from the vessel’ although further analysis of the images are planned. Locating the fuel debris is part of the decommissioning process for the nuclear plant which is likely to take decades.
