Teaching Masters Students at the University of Birmingham
Julia West devised and ran a role-play exercise for Masters students at the University of Birmingham in February 2015.
The students, from the MSc course in Nuclear Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Management, were asked to provide briefings expressing differing views to a politician whose community, in the mythical country of Milonga, was considering whether to volunteer to host a geological repository for radioactive waste. The exercise was designed to provide experience in communicating views different from their own to a non-scientist.
Julia combined her radioactive waste knowledge with her teaching and communication expertise to deliver a stimulating and enjoyable activity.
